The breeding of Arezzo VDL and Mjirina M combines two of the KWPN’s most consistent modern showjumping influences. Their genetic profiles compliment each other by balancing extreme blood and reflexes with a more modern and rideable frame.

Thor’s sire Arezzo VDL brings the golden cross of Dutch and Holsteiner breeding (Chin Chin x Heartbreaker). He is known for his exceptional reflexes and quickness off the ground, through Heartbreaker he provides a huge engine with a very careful technique. With five generations of Grand Prix Jumpers in a row (Chin Chin, Heartbreaker, Renville, Jasper and Akteur) Arezzo passes n immense scope to his offspring. Arezzo VDL enjoyed an impressive career with Grand Prix wins at Helsinki, Olympia, Vestfold, Hertogenbosch and Poznan under Dutch team rider Jur Vrieling. At the 2020 KWPN Stallion Show Arezzo was awarded the predicate ‘Preferent’ for his excellence as a breeding sire. Several offspring of Arezzo VDL are already jumping at the highest Grand Prix level. Thor’s paternal brother, VDL Edgar M, is said to currently be one of the world’s best showjumpers, winning the St. Tropez Grand Prix and competing at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Another paternal brother, Emotion VDL, sold for $175,000 at the WEF Sport Horse Auction.

Thor’s dam, Elite graded Mjirina M, descends from the damlines Merrielijn 24 and Oberlina-stam, two of the most decorated and influential marelines in the KWPN studbook. The Merrielijn 24 line is famous for producing horses with exceptional scope, competitive attitude and extreme longevity in the sport. The oberlina-stam is celebrated for primarliy producing world class dressage horses such as Vivaldi and is characterised by their elegance, uphill movement and exceptional rideability. Thor’s damline is a prolific producer of top sport horses, grand dam Njirina M produced over 12 offspring competing in sport including 1.40. jumpers Van Gogh 55 and Erasmus HX. Tracing back through the the breeding of Thor’s damline the pedigree is saturated with “Stallions of the Century” such as Nimmerdor and Amaretto D, ensuring genetic predisposition for carefulness and a competitive edge. Thor’s dam sire, Entertainer, is famous for producing horses with great balanced and interchangeable gears paired with a high legged and expressive build which produces modern and athletic offspring.

The combination of Arezzo VDL and Entertainer is a very exciting one. A powerful hind end, sharp front end and strong compact frame from Arezzo paired with the rhythmic, high-legged canter, correct and balanced jump and the tall, modern body of Entertainer will result in a horse with a ground covering stride, huge amounts of scope and speed and an athletic and functional type for top sport. Both Thor’s sire and dam line have proven reliability, Arezzo is a Preferent stallion (the highest KWPN honour for a sire based on offspring quality), and Entertainer comes from a damline that has produced many 1.50m+ horses. This is then paired with a high performing damline of Mjirina M results in very high talent heritability.
